Inspiration:
My insiration for this piece was a small heart shaped sampler by Mary Ives dated 1796 edged in a frilled pink ribbon. The sampler is pictured in Samplers and Tapestry Embroidery by Marcus Huish (1913). The colors are inspired by the desire to use a unique color scheme I saw on a pair of designer socks. I used motifs typical from Dutch samplers to give a similar feel to the heart by Mary Ives. The piece looks wonderful hanging from a door or cabinet.
