Be Mine Pin
Berlin Wool Work that was popular in the Victorian Era inspired this lovely heart pin. Berlin Wool Work was characterized by the mass-market charted patterns that were produced using hand-colored graph paper. The introduction of these canvas-work designs popularized simple Tent Stitch or Cross Stitch embroidery to the newly emerging middle-class woman. Flowers and animals were some of the most popular motifs, along with portraits of the Royal Family and Biblical themes.

Flower Jar Pin
The design for this pin was inspired by a carved ok chair back, circa 1665-1706. The chair resides in the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, Maine. The chair is attributed to early 17th century American furniture makers William Searle and Thomas Dennis, who practiced their trade in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Joinery and simple low relief carving characterized American furniture at the time. Often, the carvings would have been further enhanced with red or black paint. The simple lines of the carving reminds me of the English Tent Stitch embroideries of the same century.

Acorn Pin
The inspiration for this autumn design was a plaque carved in the low relief style of the 16th century. Acorns were a popular motif of this era when the mighty oak forests of England stood tall.

Poinsettia Pin
I wanted to represent winter by the flowers we commonly use to celebrate the season - namely the poinsettia, the passion-flower and the amaryllis. This design is an interpretation of an English 16th century woodcut carved in low-relief to give the impression of these red winter flowers.
