Description:
I have always been enthralled by the low relief carving that was typical of the early Mayflower settlers in the New World. The bold and simple floral graphics are seen in many types of folk art. I once had the wonderful experience of taking such a carving class on the grounds of Plimoth Plantation with a docent. The thrill of working with wood is almost as good as working with the needle. This design is an adaptation of an English low relief carving of the same late 17th century period. I have added just a few textural stitches to the piece to "spice up" the "low relief" of the cross stitch.
