Description:
Genuine Miniature samplers - not fragments of larger
pieces or excerpts from full sized samplers - are rare. Many of the
common types were monochromatic alphabet and numeric tests and came
from the working class school environment. Many of these ended up
bound into small volumes which showed samples of a girls work,
including her hand sewing examples. I set out to reinterpret two
styles of samplers, Quaker and Redwork in a miniature format. Quaker
samplers were almost equally wrought in a monochromatic or limited
color scheme. I have given two options for this Quaker sampler. The
Redwork sampler could also be worked equally well in your favorite
blue or over two threads.
Materials Recommended:
40 ct Lino Ricmo in Ivory and between one and
six colors of Au Ver a Soie Soie d'Alger or DMC floss. Frames shown
are Mini Frame (PR157), Mini Frame (PR1590), and Xtra Tiny Frame
(PR157) from Olde Colonial Designs.
